Robin Van Persie |
Manchester will spend heavily to bring new faces to Old
Trafford this summer according to striker Robin Van Persie. The transfer has
opened slowly for United, as the club have made only one major signing in
Memphis Depay.
Last season United spent over £150m on purchasing new players
under Van Gaal’s debut season. Though the team achieved its minimum target of a
Champions League spot, a lot still need to be put in place for the team to
challenge for titles on home front and in Europe. Last season performance opened
up the reasons why United must invest in the team again, especially in defence
and at least on one striker, as United struggled for the goals last season.
Things may get complicated for United on the transfer front
if as widely expected goalkeeper David De Gea departs, as the team may need to
add the burden of getting another keeper to it’s already established needs of a
number of decent signings.
But an insider, Dutch striker Van persie believes United
will splash the cash once again, as they look to challenge for honors next
season.
He told Manchester Evening News “United spent £200m on
players and they are going to spend another £200m this summer so that we
will have a team that can compete for the title.”
