Tottenham 3-0 Manchester United: Player ratings

David De Gea: 6
Typical David De Gea performance, catching almost anything that come his way. Did well to keep out two deadly balls in the first half. And a couple of saves in the second half from Erickson, Kane and co. But still ended up conceding three and on the losing side.

Fosu-Mensah: 7.5
He didn't look like a new comer into the team. Intelligently all around the place. Offered a lot going forward. Made a vital block after De Gea not to perfect save. Coincidence that United conceded three after he was brought off? No. Undoubtedly United's man of the match.

Chris Smalling: 5

Close to perfect performance from the Englishman. But was part of a defensive setup that crumbled in six minutes

Daley Blind: 5
The Dutchman was intelligent as he had always been. But was part of the United's defence that conceded three in quick succession.

Marcos Rojo: 5
Beaten too easily by Walker, for a Tottenham half chance in the first half. Other than that, had a decent game.

Michael Carrick: 4
Another flat performance from the Englishman. Gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions in the first half. Too pedestrian.

Morgan Schneiderlin: 3

Couldn't cope with the power, intensity and pace of the Spurs midfielders. Didn't have any influence on the game.

Juan Mata: 4
He started in the right, which reduced his effectiveness. Did a lot of track backing, helped in the defence. Offered next to nothing going forward.

Jesse Lingard: 4
Didn't work for him as United's number 10 on the evening. Lot of not too effective hard work.

Anthony Martial: 5
Had a silent and grossly ineffective in the left. Bursted into life midway the second half with a lively run from the left, beating three Tottenham defenders but couldn't get the ball past Hiloris.

Marcus Rashford :5
Had a decent 45 minutes. Visibly absent, and didn't have much effect on the game. Substituted for Ashley Young at half time.

Subs

Ashley Young: 4

Came on at half time for Rashford, and was surprisingly used as a striker in the number 9 position. Offered nothing. Blame Van Gaal.

Matteo Darmian: 3

Came on for an impressive Fosu-Mensah and couldn't keep up with the tempo of the game and standard of the Dutch youngster. Conceded the foul that led to Spurs second goal.

Memphis Depay: Not Rated

Came on and the only time he was
on the camera was when he was almost fighting with Spurs right back: Walker.

  1. Manutd problems all from Carrick in the midfield. The team with Schinederlin and Herreira without Carrick always performs very well. One wonders why does lvg sticks to Carrick. He should learn from Roy Hodgson who has dropped Carrick and the England team is progressing very well. This should enough now to fire lvg. Giggs would definately do better than this old man.
