Captain Rooney calls players crisis meeting to save United's season

Manchester United's capitain Wayne Rooney has made a rallying call to his teammates to improve their season.

According to the Mirror, the meeting was only for the players.

United have not won a match in their last six, and have slumped to three straight defeats.  The team currently lies fifth on the table, and manager Van Gaal is under intense pressure.

United travel to Stoke City on boxing day, before hosting Chelsea two days after. Unconfirmed reports have it that the results of the two games will decide Van Gaal's fate at Old Trafford.

In another similar report by Daily Mail, Van Gaal held crises talks with senior players after the Norwich defeat.

Wayne Rooney, Cris Smalling, Juan Mata and Michael Carrick were among the most outspoken at the meeting.

Subject of discussion included training methods and tactics used on match days.

The players reportedly voiced out their believe that the team's current long injury list is down to the hard training methods employed by the manager, and asked him to ease down a little.

Some international players in the squad fear that the team's poor showing may affect their EURO 2016 chances.

José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have been strongly linked with the yet to be vacant coaching role.
