Stoke 2 - 0 Manchester United: post match Van Gaal and player reactions

Manchester United lost their fourth game in a roll, and have not won a game in their last seven.

Manager Van Gaal is facing the sack after his team shambolic and record breaking defeat to Stoke.

Michael Carrick believes the players are still fully behind the embattled manager and sticking together is important. Speaking after the game, he said:

"We gave ourselves too much to do again. It's a horrible run, a horrible feeling and it hurts a lot."

"We have to stick together and win football matches. We all have to take responsibility for that.

Carrick on if players are behind LvG: "Of course. You can single anyone out. We have to stick together." He added:

Manager Van Gaal doesn't know if he still has the backing of the United board.  LSpeaking after the defeat he said:

"I am part of the 4 matches we
have lost so people are looking at me. I have to deal with that.

LvG when asked if he is being backed: "We have lost a fourth game now so we shall have to see.

The Dutchman believes his team didn't dare enough in the game:

"My thoughts are we didn't dare to play football in the first half and then we gave a very bad goal away. That was too much. They scored from a free-kick and then it was half-time.

The Dutchman also claimed he is not hurt, with the media speculations about himself but the media are spreading false rumors about happenings at Old Trafford.

“My message was that the media are saying and writing things that are not happening inside Manchester United. That was my message and not that I am hurt, because I am used to that.”
