Club CEO confirms Michael Carrick has agreed new United deal

Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos  says the club understands that Michael Carrick has agreed a new one deal with Manchester United.

The Australian side made an attempt to lure the Manchester United midfielder to the A-League, but have now conceded defeat on the fact that the 34 year old will be staying at United for another season or more.

Carrick's future at United have been in doubt after his children were used as Mascots for United last home game of last season against Bournemouth.

Carrick's future had always depended on who manages United next season, and it seems Mourinho wants the Englishman around.

“It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia’s relationship with Michael,” Filopoulos told FourFourTwo.

Richard Garcia is Glory's captain. He was Carrick's former teammate at West Ham and Best man at his (Carrick's) wedding.

"Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he,was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United.

"We understand he’s now secured an extension with Manchester United so that’s off the table.

"It’s certainly was an option to him and his, family for lifestyle reasons."

Great to see Michael Carrick remain at United for a season or two. His experience will be needed in helping Mourinho shape his new United team.
