Paul Ince: Mourinho and this United target can bring back the fear factor

The former Manchester United midfielder believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic can have the same team lifting effect Eric Cantona had when he was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson 23 years ago.

United have been linked with the Swede, but the decision about his future hasn't been made public. Ibrahimovic is a free agent after he refused to sign a new deal at PSG, but the 34 year old will miss out on £4m if he announces or sign for a new team before the end of June.

"Eric was a lot younger when he arrived at Old Trafford but Zlatan can still do it at 34,”  Ince told M.E.N

"He's got the stature like Cantona, the flicks and tricks. He'll puff out his chest and take the whole stage on board like Eric did if he signs. I don't want it to become about him though. You don't want team-mates to be over-awed.

"We weren't over-awed with Eric because he was a team player. We fed off him. He was charismatic, influential and inspirational but he was one of us.

Ince believes United have not made top notch signings in the last few seasons, and believes the combination of Ibrahimovic and Mourinho can bring the fear factor back to United.

"I don't think United have signed players over the last few years who could take on being an Old Trafford player properly. Okay they won the FA Cup but you need more than that. It should be Champions League every season. Real title challengers every year.

"You get that when opponents fear you. With Mourinho in charge and somebody like Ibrahimovic you've got two people who'll bring that back."
