Juan Mata's future has been up for speculation since the speculated arrival of Jose Mourinho as the next United manager. The Portuguese tactician sold Mata to United and both parties may not want to work with each other again at Old Trafford.
The Spanish playmaker has been linked with a move to China over the last few weeks.
But latest report from Spain is that Atletico Madrid are interested and leading the race to sign the 27year old.
The capital club are reportedly confident they can lure the player back to Spain, when they begin talks with him in the summer.
The player moved to England from Spanish club Valencia, and may see Atletico as a perfect route back to Spain if he is no longer wanted at Old Trafford.
