Arsenal are ready to make a fast move for Michael Carrick, given that the player would be a free agent by June and United are yet to offer him a new contract.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be a a long term admirer of the player, and has failed in three previous attempts to sign the Englishman according to the Mirror.
Carrick, 34 could move to the Emirates, if United fail to offer him a new contract.
Wenger is reportedly preparing to overhaul his midfield, by allowing the trio of Thomas Rocicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini leave in the summer. And free Carrick would be a good option.
News of United preparing a one year contract extension for the player has once circulated, but the player is yet to officially sign any deal.
With the future of Van Gaal as United coach uncertain, Carrick's future at United may depend on who becomes United's next manager.
