The Brazil legend has hailed the new Manchester United manager as a good coach but thinks the Portuguese needs luck to succeed at United.
Mourinho, was confirmed as Van Gaal's replacement on Friday, and the former Chelsea boss faces daunting task of returning United to the summit of English and European football once again.
Only few persons in world football command much respect and are experienced as Pele. The legendary goal scorer, thinks apart from understanding their team, great managers need some element of luck.
Asked what makes a great manager and his opinion on Mourinho, he replied:
"First of all, they have to have luck. Luck is very important.
"Then the coaches, they should understand football and know their team, and Mourinho is a good coach. A very, very good coach, and I hope he has luck.
"Sometimes, a good coach doesn’t win tournaments. The players win."
