The United manager has admitted that his team couldn't cope with Liverpool's pressure on the night. United suffered an embarrassing 2-0 first leg defeat at Anfield, despite not winning all of their four previous games with the Kops.
Speaking after the game, he said: Via manutd.com.
"I have to say that Liverpool
have created an atmosphere that is fantastic.
"They played very good; in the first half we could not cope with their pressure. Still, they have chances but David De Gea was fantastic."
The manager thinks United improved in the second half, but that didn't reflect on the scoreboard as United conceded another goal to make things worse.
"Liverpool were the better team in the first half but in the second half we played a better match than before it. In the second half we tried to press like Liverpool.
We have changed the shape and then you saw that Liverpool also had difficulties but we did not create too many chances, maybe two or
three.''
United host Liverpool in the second leg next week, and must score more than two goals to stand a chance.
