The United defender has enjoyed some consistency in the first team for sometime now, due to injuries to other players.
The Uruguayan has however revealed that he once wanted to leave United, but Van Gaal convinced him to stay.
The player was David Moyes first signing, but the presence of players like Valencia, and others limited his first team chances.
"First I wanted to leave, but Louis van Gaal asked me to stay. He told Urugol via Metro.
"He gave me the opportunity and luckily I’ve played for many matches in a row."
The player has turned in some brilliant performances for United this season, and sure will give Darmian and Valencia a fight for the starting Jersey.
