Long term injured absentee could make United's bench tonight

Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia is fit enough to make the bench for the Europa League clash with Liverpool, Van Gaal has revealed.

The Ecuadorian suffered an injury in the Manchester Derby last year October, and has been out since then. He has a surgery a month latter (in November) and has been recovering since then.

Van Gaal has however revealed that the bench player has trained with the first team for a week, and may be on the bench against Liverpool.

"Antonio Valencia and Bastian Schweinsteiger are coming back.

"Schweinsteiger has only had one training session with us behind his back.

"Valencia has a week (of training) so he is much closer to being on the bench, for example, but not to play a match as that's different.

"I don’t think [any new players will be available] but Valencia is fit enough to be on the bench, but to play 90 minutes, I don’t think so.

He said via Man United's official website.

His return will be a welcomed development for United, though it may means players like Varela may not get more playing time this season.
