The Frenchman was a last minute surprise signing last summer, but has taken the league by surprise.
The young striker gas scored six goals and has assisted three for United this season, and has had a lot of match wining performances.
He's scored one and assisted three in his last two games for United, and has become a favorite at Old Trafford.
Speaking after another splendid performance from Martial that gave United the 3-0 victory over Stoke, Van Gaal said:
"It is very much surprising when you are 19, now he is 20, and you come from the French league to the Premier League and you can do this when you are 19 years or 20 years old. You have a lot of potential to give then still.
The United manager also expressed his love for the youngster's goal:
"I always like team goals and the second one(Martial's goal) was a team goal, building up from the back and then switching the play to the other side and then a finish like that, it was fantastic."
