Alan Shearer: United not denying Mourinho links should make Van Gaal worry

The former Newcastle striker believes United's silence on the rumors linking the club to the Portuguese tactician shouldn't be taken for granted.

Van Gaal has been under immense pressure for most of this season, and the team's most recent defeat to Sunderland has almost  officially knocked the team out of the race to make the top four.

José Mourinho is a name that has been constantly linked with taking over from the Dutchman, and the rumour of his take over has gained momentum over the last two weeks.

While no official news have been released from Mourinho's camp, United have also not denied the news. This according to the former England striker is worrisome. Speaking after United's defeat to Sunderland, Shearer said:

"What will also be hugely alarming is that there’s so many newspaper outlets going on about Mourinho.

Not one person from the Manchester United hierarchy has come out and denied that. That must be very worrying."
