The Arsenal legend believes Van Gaal's extremely rigid methods is what is responsible for United's struggles, especially in the attack. United have lacked the goals this season, with the team failing to score a first half goal in its last eleven games at Old Trafford.
Henry wrote in the Sun:
"Van Gaal’s problems stem from his determination to maintain rigid control of his players in every area of the pitch.
"But you can’t do that with your forwards. You have to give your flair players the freedom to run everywhere, to have shots and score goals.
"Angel Di Maria had all the characteristics to become a Manchester United great, a natural successor to former legends like Giggs, Ronaldo and even George Best.
He was a fan-tastic player at Real Madrid and he’s been amazing this season at PSG. So why did he fail after his £59.7million move to Old Trafford? Was it the player who was at fault or the system he was being asked to play in?"
You can't but tend to agree with Henry on this.
