Five key battles to watch out for in Chelsea Vs Man United

Manchester United's newly discovered form would be put to test, when Van Gaal leads his the to London, to face the Blues. United have scored six goals in their last two matches, and the confidence level in the United squad would be booming.

Home team Chelsea are yet to lose a Premier League game under new manager Guus Hiddink, a run that extends to their last seven games in the league.

Chelsea-Man United clashes over the last few years have always been table topping and title deciding clashes, but this is way different as both teams are fighting to get favorable positions on the table to qualify for Europe next season.

The game is an important one for both teams, as neither team can't afford to lose.

Redlyunited looks at five main player-to-player clashes that would affect the outcome of the match.

1. Diego Costa against Chris Smalling

The striker has made more headlines this season for his troubles than his goals, while United defence Marshall, Smalling is arguably the most improved player in the United squad from last season.

Costa is known for his footballing antics, and he is easily provoked. The clash between both players would be worth watching.

2. Mata against Mikel

The Spanish playmaker would most likely start in the number 10 role for United, that will pitch him in a man-to-man battle with Mikel obi.

The Nigerian has always provided the needed shield for the Chelsea back four, and Mata must get pass him to penetrate the Chelsea defence. It will be a test of Mata's graft and skill against Mikel's power and stamina.

3. Martial against Ivanovic:

The Frenchman has taken a lot of defenders especially right backs to the cleaners this season, and this will be a huge test for the Chelsea ace.

Ivanovic had an unconvincing start to the season, but has improved over the last few matches, it remains to be seen how he will keep out the blazing Martial.

4. Carrick against Fàbregas:

This is a battle of intelligence and wit.

While Fàbregas would be saddled with the responsibility of trying to balance the Chelsea defence and attack, Carrick would also want to do same.

Both men would be trying to link their defences to attack, while also trying to stop each other.

5. Rooney against Terry:

This is not a new battle in the league, as both men are used to each other.

The Chelsea skipper announced last week that he would be leaving at the end of the season, and this could be his last match against United as a Chelsea player.

Wayne is in best form of the season, with seven goals in his last seven games, and the Chelsea captain would want to give a good account of himself against United.
