The Dutchman has given positive update on the United left back.
The player had earlier given an indication of his eagerness to return to the pitch with his teammates after he started training outside.
The manager is happy with the player's process, but us taking things step by step.
Asked about the left back ahead of United's match with Crystal Palace, Van Gaal replied:
"He's very positive, he's doing great. I cannot deny that so he's training on the pitch.
"But now he's training with the physiotherapist and he has to train with the football coach and that still hasn't happened."
