De Gea: 7

Typical David De Gea performance. Made an important clearance midway the first half on Lukaku when Smalling slipped.

He made another late save from Phil Jagielka: a reflexive instinctive save that preserved United's lead.

Darmian: 6

Started at right back against Cleverly. Wasn't tested much. Was part of a solid defensive setup

Smalling: 7

Did a good job on Lukaku. He has a moment of fear when he slipped against the Belgian, but De Gea reacted well. Another close to perfect performance from the Englishman.

Blind: 7.5

Would no doubt be in contention for the man of the match award. Did a fantastic job on Lukaku.

He was calm, intelligent, and composed against the big Belgian. Layer substituted late on.

Rojo: 6

He was in his usual energetic mood. Helped on the attack when needed. Substituted at half time.

Schneiderlin: 7

He was an effective cover for the back four. Provided the needed link  between defence and attack.

Carrick: 5

He wasn't at his best, gave the ball away cheaply on a good number of occasions. Not a  surprise he was substituted in the second half.

Lingard: 5.5

Another start in the number 10 position, but he wasn't convincing. Lot of runs and hardworking, but no cutting edge end result.

Mata: 5.5

He continued his trend of playing every in Premier League game for United this season.  Another average performance from the Spaniard. He returned to the unfamiliar right role worked hard.

Martial: 7.5

Another man of the match performance from the Frenchman. Even before his goal he looked threaten and lively. Scored the all important goal.

Rashford: 7

Another good showing from the youngster. Showed the wiliness to run, take on defenders and played a substantial part in the buildup to the goal.

Substitutes

Fosu-Mensah: 7

One of the most effective substitute performance in the Van Gaal era at United. Came on and provided injected pace and live into the game.

He made the all important cross into the box for United's only goal.
As a defender he made one important clearance late into the game, that Lukaku could have pounced on for a goal.

Herrera: 5

Came on for Carrick and did a good job as a shield to the defence.

Valencia: 5

Came on late but made some vital blocks and clearance.
