Van Gaal's opposite number in the next Premier League game Claudio Ranieri says Martial is strong and intelligent, and believes he will improve.
Martial was United's star at the start of the season with five goals and three assists in nine matches, this made him a crowd favorite at the theatre of dreams.
However the striker has struggled for goals in recent matches and have come under intense criticism form Paul Scholes.
However former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri says Paul Scholes criticism of the player will improve him.
"It is right to make criticism -
and Scholes made the right criticism - but it will improve his mind".
"His character is very strong,
he is young, but strong. It is important that he is also intelligent and then he can improve."
