Manchester United staged a below par performance on a night when a win would gave guarantee the team's qualification into the last 16 of Europe elite club competition.
The team lacked the cutting edge, accuracy and luck on the night. Here are extract form the post match reactions from coach Van Gaal, and some players. The Dutchman still believes United can qualify.
"Anything's possible. We can win anywhere. We've proved that in the Premier League and we must do it in the Champions League." The Dutchman said.
On the poor result the manager said: "They (The players)are human beings. You never know. We are still
in a qualifying position I believe."
Despite missing one of the team's best goal scoring chance, Van Gaal was happy with Lingard: "I think Jesse Lingard played a very good game." He said on the youngster.
He was not happy with his midfielders who he believes lacks some confidence :"It was clear some of our players didn't have the confidence to demand the ball tonight."
I said during half time our
midfielders should be available for our defenders. I wasn't happy about that." He added.
Captain Wayne Rooney believes a draw was a good result.
According to him "It is a game we were capable of winning and we played some good stuff in the first half."
"In the second half we showed a lack of composure so that was not great. Overall a draw was probably fair."
Defender Smalling believes the team could have won the game, and is optimistic that United can get the job in Germany.
"We've made it hard for ourselves ahead of the last game but we'll go to Wolfsburg with hope."
"We had more than enough to win and make the difference in the final game." He added.
