The duo worked together at Chelsea and may be keen on working together again.
Lukaku has stated his desire to leave Everton, but only for a club playing Champions League football.
With the Blues out of the reach of qualifying for the competition next season, Lukaku moving back to London looks difficult.
United are still in the race for a top four finish, and if they can make it, then Lukaku moving to Old Trafford looks more likely.
Secondly, Everton will demand a transfer fee in the region of £50m and Blues owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly not willing to dish out £50m for a player they sold two seasons ago.
United may be willing to offer something close to that for the striker.
The possibility of working with Mourinho is another side attraction for Lukaku.
