The former Chelsea manager is the favorite to replace Van Gaal as United's manager.
There have been several reports regarding the move. The latest is that Mourinho's agent Mendes will meet with United's vice chairman Ed. Woodward this week.
There have been also reports that the Portuguese have agreed a deal with United, a news that neither party is yet to reject.
Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has however report that the Mourinho camp believes the deal is a done deal.
In a Q&A session with fans, he tweeted:
His people say all done with United."
"Most football people think all done too. MUFC (Man United) say no decision made Lvg thinks he's staying."
Fans are patiently waiting to see what will happen to Van Gaal at the end of the season. The United board have been slow in taking a decision, with the Dutchman still having support of some of the big decision takers at Old Trafford.
