The Spanish giants are reportedly making plans to sign Man United's attacking midfielder Ander Herrera if their plans to sign former United midfielder Paul Pogba fails.
Pogba is Madrid's first choice, but with teams like PSG, Barcelona and Manchester City also interested, Madrid face a battle to lure the Frenchman to the capital city.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Herrera is next on Real's list.
With United facing managerial instability, the player having had reduced playing time this season and the guarantee of Champions League football, a move to Madrid would look enticing to Herrera.
Madrid are also still interested in United's goal keeper De Gea, and may return in the summer for the shot stopper.
