MANCHESTER UNITED 3 NEWCASTLE 1: MATCH REPORT AND PLAYER RATINGS

Manchester United continued their fine home form and gave their fans a perfect Xmas gift with a three one victory over Newcastle. Wayne Rooney got a pair of goal on the 23rd and 36th minutes before Van persie’s header, assisted by Rooney early on in the second half, putting the home side on the driving before Jones gave away a cheap penalty late on that  was converted by Papiss Cisse.
It was an almost perfect game for United, who dominated proceedings from start but dropped momentum after the third goal in the second half allowing the Magpies to get a goal.   Radamel Falcao put in another excellent performance, with his dangerous movement and link up plays, and capped off performance with a brilliant assist for Wayne Rooney first goal. Juan Mata also had a fantastic game providing the assist for the second play, but his first wonderful link up with Falcao for the first goal was another plus for the Spaniard.
Redly United looks at the performance of the United players and rates them individually:
De gea: 7
It was another good game for the United shot stopper who pas usually pulled off some beautiful saves. He’d have loved to have another clean sheet in a game United dominated but, the team conceded a penalty and he couldn’t save.
Valencia: 7
He was lively throughout his time on the field before he was substituted late on. He defended brilliantly and added spice and width to the attack, though he didn’t have the opportunity of pulling in his traditional crosses.
Jones 6.5
He had a decent game by his standard, but was gave away an unessary penalty. Other than that he had a good game, and was comfortable moving the ball out of the United’s defence with his long runs on a number of occasions.
McNair: 7.5
He continued the tradition of United wining every game he’s played in this season. Was solid at the centre of the back three and had to do some tough defending hobs which he diod well.cerainly looking good for the future
Jonny Evans: 6.5
Started on the left side of the back three and put in a decent performance, though not too convincing. Won some tackles and was better off than his last two games.
Young: 7.5
He is one of the most improved players under Van Gaal, and he continued his fine form in his new position at left back. He was always dangerous on the attack, not afraid to take on the Newcastle defence one on one, and put in a number of goal mouth crosses that either of Van Persie or Falcao could have scored. He though had one shaky moment with his defensive duty.
Carrick: 7
He was a buffer in the midfield, shielding the defence and spreading the passes. Provided the much needed stability in the midfield, this was more evidence after he was substituted late on in the game.
Mata: 8.5
He was a beauty to behold throughout the game, was very effective in looking for the loopholes in the Newcastle defence. He was very effective few yards outside the box, and had a hand in the both goals in the first half.
Rooney: 9
Another undoubtedly man of the match from the United captain scoring two goals and provided a magnificent 30 yards Paul Scholes like assist for Van Persie’s goal. It’s a performance that brings up the question of what is the best position for Rooney again. As he was super effective with his passes, dictating play and pace of the game.
Falcao: 8
Five starts, tow goals and four assists says it all for Falcao, a player who’s just returning to full fitness again, after a long spell on the side line. His assist for the first goal shows his unselfishness and great vision, even in the box. His movement on and off the ball was commendable and caused the Newcastle defence a lot of problem.
Van Persie: 8
He had a decent game and scored a beauty of a goal, His new partnership with Falcao can only get better.

Substitutes
Fletcher: 4
He came in for Carrick and was expected to stabilize and control things in the midfield, but didn’t do that convincingly, had a good number of passes, but also lost the ball on a number of occasion, and one in a dangerous position.
Rafael: 6
It was great to see him back in the squad, and was faultless throughout the few minutes he spent on the field.
Wilson: 5
Came into the game, and had little or no impact, still has to develop his presence in games.
