Manchester United outclassed Everton on a day the Evertonians lost a legendary figure in Howard Kendall.
United were effective on the day scoring two goals within the first thirty minutes of the game. Close to the manner the team had lost its last match to Arsenal.
Schneiderlin scored his first competitive goal for united, before Herrera nodded in the second, from a fine Rojo cross. Wayne Rooney added the third midway into the second half, from a quick counter and timely pass from Herrera. Overall it was a perfect response from the team.
Redlyunited looks at five major talking points from the game.
1. Smalling the Rock: The Englishman no doubt has been United's best defender this season, he is also one of the most Improved player in the united team. Against Everton, he once again showed strength, character and composure. Playing without his regular centre back partner (Blind) and against a big opposition like Lukaku, the defender handled the whole situation perfectly. He made some
Important blocks and was strong against the Big Belgian, making him ineffective in the game.
2. De Gea's stay, United's gain: the Spanish goalkeeper was one of the main reasons united kept a clean sheet. Though not called into action too often, he made two important saves at crucial times in the game. Not letting him go will definitely be one of Van Gaal's best coaching decision at united.
3. Schneiderlin needed more: the Frenchman was an unused substitute against Arsenal: a game united lost the midfield battle, lacking an effective and mobile defensive midfielder. Against Everton, he showed what United lacked in the Arsenal loss. He was a perfect shield for the back four, and was constantly breaking the opposition's flow and play. Not afraid to make an important tackle. Van Gaal needs to play him more.
4. Herrera also making a case: he will no doubt be in contention for man of the match. Scoring the second goal and making the assist for the third was not all, he was effective Defensively and offensively. A rare combination. He once again showed why Van Gaal must start him in more games.
5. Martial may be multi-positional but more effective as a centre forward: the Frenchman attacked from the left in this game. He had a decent game, getting the better off Coleman on a number of occasions, and could have had an assist to his name. But the he could have influenced the game more, if he had attacked from the middle. He has shown this in previous games, and we only hope Van Gaal won't be performing more experiment with the teenager.
