Former Manchester United star wins club award with new team: Another former United star came second

Former  Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has been named as West Bromwich Albion Supporters' Club Player of the Year in his first season at the club.

The defender narrowly beat another former Manchester United star and West Brom's current captain Darren Fletcher to the award.

Evans is a product of the Man United academy and was capped 198 times by United before he moved to Albion. He scored seven goals and won seven titles including three Premier League titles with United.

He struggled for form and playing time under Van Gaal and made the switch to the Hawthorns in August 2015.

He has since been an ever present figure for his team, starting 28 Premier League games for Albion in 36 matches.

John Homer, chairman of West Brom supporters’ club, said: (via expressandstar)

"Jonny Evans is a very versatile player who, along with Darren Fletcher bought that element of class from Manchester United where they’ve had a good upbringing.

“He can prove his worth in almost any defensive position and he also filled in for a spell in midfield which
demonstrated entirely what a super footballer he is."

Congrats to the former United duo.

Bigger congrats to Evans for winning the award.
