The Dutchman is seeking for a revenge victory against Norwich when both sides meet on Saturday at Carrow Road.
Norwich compounded United's woes last December when both sides met at Old Trafford.
Norwich defeated United 2-1 to go prolong United's winless steak to four games in the league, and three straight defeats.
However United travel to Carrow Road with an improved form.
United are chasing their top four hopes, while Norwich are swimming against the relegation tides.
"It is always difficult to fight against a team that fights for maintaining their position in the Premier League." Van Gaal said in his press conference ahead of the game.
"We have to cope with that. They have won at Old Trafford so we shall have to take revenge.
"It will be a tough game but we have to win."
