Revealed: What United will pay Van Gaal if they sack him

Manchester United will have to pay Louis Van Gaal £5 million payoff if he is sacked at the end of the season, according to an exclusive in the Times.

According to the report, the Dutchman is on a basic salary of £3.3m per season, but that could rise to £8m based on performance, loyalty and image rights.

Van Gaal has also missed out on another £1.5m bonus if the team had won the Premier League or Champions League, or half that amount if United had been runners up.

United are currently fifth, out of the qualification spot for Champions League football, but the team still stand a chance of qualifying.

United face Crystal Palace in the finals of the FA Cup, and Van Gaal will get £400,000 as bonus should United win the competition.
