Van Gaal gives reason for Rashford's absence against Norwich

The United manager has opened up on why the young striker was not in the squad to face Norwich. In a decision that almost backfired as Martial picked up an injury before the game.

The Dutchman explained that he rested the 18 year old striker because he is not not performing at the level he was, when he made his goal scoring debut.

Rashford scored four goals in his first two games for United, and has scored a total of seven goals in fifteen matches.

"You see in the games, Marcus is not doing the things he did in his first match or second match anymore." Van Gaal said Via (M.E.N)

"You want to deny that at first and you say it to him but then you see maybe it is tiredness. So I hope that these two days give him again the stimulus to be in the line-up in the next game because we have to play West Ham and it’s not an easy game.

"I wouldn’t have rested him for the match (if there wasn’t another match on Tuesday) but now we only have two days’ recuperation and recovery. That is too short for these players."
